In a digital age The American Legion should endeavor to be the leader of the VSO community by having a virtual post where our veterans can sign up.  Our members should have the option of belonging to a virtual post in addition to a “brick and mortar” post.  This generation is more accustomed to getting e-mails and doing research online.  As such they may welcome getting e-mails periodically from The American Legion.  We can send: weekly reports, recent testimony, legislative alerts, and other veteran related news. We will inform all of our virtual post members of matters their representative support or do not support.  As a consequence of regularly using e-mail these members will be the ones taking action and sending letters, calling or sending e-mails to their representatives.  Together we form an unmistakable presence to advocate for veterans’ rights.  We are the new chapter of the founding ideals that is      The American Legion

As the first chartered Post of The American Legion, the Pioneer Post, George Washington Post 1 has now, once again, found itself in a position to take the reins as a leader for change.  The current Information Revolution has made it possible for the Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) to reach out across the globe to the American men and women who presently fight for our liberties on battlefields in Iraq, Afghanistan and now in the Horn of Africa.  Never before have the VSO community seen the opportunities that the World Wide Web may provide.  This "Virtual Post" is the guiding light of a new era.  May we promote the "Four Pillars" and enlighten the veteran community together.

It is about time veterans staked their own e-ground.  If you think this is all about modernizing and re-branding the image of the veteran, you're right.  While The American Legion, as well as other Veteran's Service Organizations, have been steadfastly serving veterans and their communities, most people's image of vets are male, chain-smoking, beer-bellied barflies.  We are committed to a Renaissance of the American veteran.  We are men and women.  We are in our 20's, 30's and 40's, not just our 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's.  We are all originally from different parts of the world, but all of us call ourselves Americans.  All of us took a vow to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and through our service, have earned the right to call each other comrade.  This post is your post.  Welcome.

I help our post finish the sentence, "I like my post because...."

This website is unique given Post 1's historical significance and commitment to our nation's veterans in the past to connecting to our younger veterans of today.  During Vietnam, the draft brought many soldiers from the same community to the war and when they returned home, they all joined the same post.  With an all volunteer military now, many transitioning soldiers return to communities and lack that common bond.

This post is an outlet that you can join and learn about your veterans' benefits, stay active on veterans' affairs issues and uphold the traditions of serving our nation's finest. You can share your military stories, challenges and best moments.   Membership for this post is thriving, influential, cutting-edge and welcomes you.

For anyone who is alone, without God and without Country, the weight of days is dreadful, and without ethics he is a wild beast loosed upon this world.  His Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better, to live for the last judgment therein every day, in every act of rebellion to express his nostalgia for the innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.

I belong to a local post, post 484, in Cincinnati Ohio.  But I rarely get to visit home so I am lending a helping hand to this very first virtual post hoping that it will attract the veterans in cyber space... I believe that this is a good opportunity for all of us to come together and exchange ideas and help everyone... and watch The American Legion walk into the next century.
