New program helps returning veterans

PORT ST. LUCIE - When Frank Howard came home from the Vietnam War, people spit on him in the street.

"They didn't like the war and they didn't like me," he said. Howard did three tours of duty in Vietnam, his last at age 21 as a captain and military adviser to a South Vietnamese Army division.

Now he and his comrades in the American Legion Post 318 of Port St. Lucie, are working to insure a different reception for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, especially severely wounded men and women.
